Portland's own Greg Bell, recognized thought leader, motivational speaker and author, comes to OPB to share his unique and joyful approach to achieving growth in life and work in WATER THE BAMBOO: UNLEASHING YOUR POTENTIAL, an all new television special to help viewers discover new ways to think about their goals and keep them in focus. Tune in to the stations of OPB on Thursday, September 15 at 8pm when Bell is live in the studio to describe how to use personal values to shape a vision, how to set positive goals that help realize dreams, and how to join with others for strength and accountability.
Bell founded the Water The Bamboo® Center for Leadership in Portland to inspire individuals to achieve remarkable results. "Water The Bamboo®," Bell says, "is a metaphor for the path to success. If you water giant timber bamboo in the first year, nothing happens. In the second year, nothing happens. In the third year, nothing happens. But when you water bamboo in the fourth year it rockets an astonishing 90 feet in only 60 days. The question is, do you have the vision, faith, patience, persistence and focus to achieve what you want? Those who catch the spirit and understand the principles of the bamboo farmer will see their visions suddenly explode into reality — seemingly out of nowhere."
Bell has brought the principles of Water The Bamboo® to tens of thousands of individuals and more than 500 organizations. His techniques transform leadership and spark change. WATER THE BAMBOO presents a tool kit of practical exercises, stories of triumph, and interaction that entertains, challenges and motivates viewers.
Bell played basketball for the University of Oregon where he was twice named Inspirational Player of the Year. After receiving a political science and law degree, he became a successful attorney. Personal events inspired him to re-evaluate his life and priorities, and he helped launch the Coaches vs. Cancer campaign for the National Association of Basketball Coaches—a non-profit that has raised over 50 million dollars for cancer research.
Bell teaches Water The Bamboo® through over 80 speaking engagements a year, trainings, consulting, and writing to help people unlock their unlimited potential for growth. The Water The Bamboo® website is waterthebamboo.com.
WATER THE BAMBOO: UNLEASHING YOUR POTENTIAL is produced by OPB and will be available to PBS stations nationwide to spread Bell's positive strategies to viewers across the country.
