Michael Allen Harrison is a popular musician and tireless supporter of arts in the schools. His recording studio in the heart of Portland's Pearl district features state-of-the-art digital recording and a concert grand Steinway handpicked by Michael. Tune in to OREGON ART BEAT on the stations of Oregon Public Broadcasting on Thursday, June 26 at 8pm and Sunday, June 29 at 2am and 6pm for another look at this viewer favorite.
Haunted mining towns and rusty cars inspire Carson Ellis. Her innovative work evokes mysterious stories about people and places that long ago vanished. She's best known for her album covers for the Decemberists. We watch her at work on another CD cover and as she embarks on a new adventure illustrating
books for children.
The owners of Portland's Elements Glass foundry and gallery were boyhood buddies in St. Louis. They all ended up in Portland where they demonstrate their primitive method for making glass art. OREGON ART BEAT joins sculptor Mike Leckie to pay a visit to their foundry where Leckie has them pour some striking glass faces. Tune in to Oregon Public Broadcasting Thursday, May 6 at 8pm to see the results.
Video clips of the stories featured on ART BEAT can be viewed online immediately following the broadcast at www.opb.org/programs/artbeat.
