Karen Miller is a former marine biologist from Oregon State University who now practices the ancient Japanese technique for cutting stencils called "katazome." OREGON ART BEAT goes to Corvallis to meet her and see how she creates distinctive fabrics for wall hangings, quilts and more, inspired by her love of nature -- and her former career. Tune in to the stations of Oregon Public Broadcasting on Thursday, July 10 at 8pm and Sunday, July 13 at 2am and 6pm as ART BEAT "Favorites" revisits this and two other popular segments.

Aaron Meyer was trained in classical violin. Bill Lamb was a Portland songwriter who had some success in Nashville. But they both had given up music -- until they found each other. See how these two musicians have forged a bond through music that inspires work in schools, the recording studio and now, the Oregon Symphony.

Taking inspiration from the mountain he can see from his place across the Columbia from Hood River, and from faces old and young he finds in his community, Andrew Pate has established a reputation of one of Oregon's fastest-rising painters.

Video clips of the stories featured on ART BEAT can be viewed online immediately following the broadcast at www.opb.org/programs/artbeat.
